Are carrying maps needed on the AT?

or is simply carrying the AT train companion enough?

I like having the topo maps cause it gives me a good idea what to expect for the day and can better gauge my stops. That’s just me though others have told me they would rather not know what lies ahead in altitude changes. The maps also show water supplies available. Data, Companion &maps are going with me next Spring
