Who from the 2002 bunch still checks up on this site often?
Macgyver
My husband I still check the site quite a bit. Its fun to read the new journals and give advice to those planning a hike. We hiked sobo in 2002.

Papa Smurf
Stumpknocker, good to see you finally found this place!
I’m trying to get out again this year. Probably from Fontana
to Harper’s Ferry, starting mid April.
Maybe I’ll catch you along the way.
Good luck on your trek. Going to Maine again?
Paintbrush and Blue Heron scan these pages from time to time.
Wedding Singer, too.

How you doing Macgyver? I know of you but don’t recall actually meeting you last year. I still come here to put my two cents worth in. I also am still getting questions off of my journal, answered one today. As Papa Smurf said there are some class of 2002 people here. Two Scoops GAME ’02
I haven’t signed that way in a long time.
Two Scoops
Congratulations Two Scoops on finishing the trail. Met you briefly at the Dutch Haus B&B back in Virginia.
Ganj
Yeah, Im right here wishing I was out there. Hey Papa Smurf and Flame,Two Scoops and Macgyver. I hope all is well with you all. Hope to see a lot of the old gang at “Trail days” Maybe Turkey Bacon can blow up the glove on his head at the talent show again!
Virginian
You too Ganj. I remember you. Forgot to say hi to you guys Virginian, Papa Smurf and Flame. I have Springer Fever pretty bad but I just started a new job and can’t get away for a while. :bawling
Two Scoops
Hey Macgyver,
What was your timeline? I hiked with the Macgyver that became Bearded Monkey. He had heard there was another Macgyver out there but I think he changed his name to blend with his fiance Monkey. Uptade for all you guys wanting to see me blow up another glove over my head. I’m trying desperately to find a job in Asheville, NC (I’m currently in Illinois). If I ever do find a job then Damascus will be a short trip and yes… I will probably do it again in the name of free swag (but only if Papa Smurf seranades someone again).

are there any other thru hikers from last year that are planning on doing a thru hike or a section hike this year??? i’ll be on springer late on 3-6-03 to start hiking north, just don’t know how far i’m going this year. i started my hike last year on 3-3-02 knowing that i was hiking to katahdin, which i summitted on 9-18-02, but this year i’m just going out to hike because i like that way of life so much. don’t know how far i’ll go or how long i’ll be out there, but i have the time so i’m just going to walk. hope to see some of you out there again. it was good to hear from you scamp, hope to hear from others. i have talked to weatherman, doc and wounded knee, midnight sun, phaedrus, mov’n and birch through emails since i finished.

In an attempt to ease my rapid case of Springer fever, i too have been checking in on these boards lately. macguyver - i really enjoyed your last journal entry from the other day. What is it about late february/early march that induces such a wave of longing for the AT?

Hey Macgyver, I’m still lurking and reading journals from 2002, and trying to update mine in a very desultory fashion. It’s really fun to hear what happened to others we ran into on the trail. Perhaps more like a series of novels with intertwining characters…? I hope to pick up again this year. I found your last post very poignant. Regards, Lady Di
Lady Di
P.S. Like Two Scoops, who I feel I know from his journal, I too have had people contact me with questions.
Lady Di
its good to see some familiar names, and ones that I only read about (since not many climbed Katahdin AFTER Oct 13). I was out today, hiking, and ran into someone training for a section this year and a thruhike next year. Can I tell you how jealous I was! It was great to talk about it, though. Stump, I wish I could join you, man. Whatever happened to Greenman and his ‘books’ of emails? Is there anyone savvy enough to create an email database or list(kinda like the one on this site, but ongoing)??
Hey TurkeyBacon- I’ll be there to watch you this year again if you make it! As that time approaches, it’ll be interesting to see who is going (and where the hell they will stick us)
TW and V- what have you guys been up to anyway? Any word from POD or JR?
Macgyver
Stumpknocker- there are quite a few people from the 2002 class that will be out on the trail this year. Most are finishing up or restarting their thru hikes. I will be starting on Springer on the same day as last year, March 30. Others that will be out there again this year include Redbeard, Chilly Willy and Just Ray, Shrek, Senendipity, and a few other I can’t think of right now.
Pushing Up Daisies
So many familiiear names. Last year i was section hiking from Skyline drive going south, attempting to get to Kinocra Hostel where I left off in 2001, (Amicola to Kinicora). Didn’t make it. Got as far as Blacksburg. So this year I will be out again, but this time I will be going from Kinicora to Blacksburg, to finsih this leg, (once done, I will have knocked back everything South of the Pennsylvania line!)
The neatest thing happend to me last year wihoich ison my jounal on this site, I was hiking South, and on 3 seperate occasions I ran into hikers that I has spent a lot of time with, hiking North and attempting to complet the trail. Can’t express to you how surreal that was, but it cemented the thoughts that I havie in my mind, that peace of soul is found in Gods?Natures world.
I don’t know if I could get thru a week without checking this site, and refreshing those memories.
So, although a section hiker, I do. check this site!!!
Thanks for being here Zip & Lief!, I don’t know if you realize how many souls you keep norished with this site!
