any suggestions on a 10 day section hike around NY PA beginning of May?

How fast do you hike? 10 days can be anywhere from 70 miles to 300 miles. Pawling to Port Clinton is somewhere in the middle mileage wise. Take a train from NYC to Pawling, then catch a bus from Port Clinto to Philly and catch a train back to NYC.

Both messages came from same country, same local hikers forum here in Israel, trying to help a hiker hike part of the AT, i myself did big part of it 2004 (French Conection)

Where will you be accessing the trail from? It is fairly easy to catch a bus from NYC to Delaware Water Gap. From there, you can go north or south depending on preference and where it might be easiest to catch your shuttle/ride back to “civilization”.
I don’t have my maps in hand, but if you went south, you could certainly get down to Duncannon or vicinity in that time frame. From there, it is easy to get to Harrisburg, PA and, from Harrisburg, you can catch a bus, train or airplane to just about anywhere. If you really cover the miles, you might even make it as far as Harpers Ferry (but that seems a bit much for a 10-day hike unless you are hitting the trail in hiking-shape and intending to motor. From Harpers Ferry, you can also easily catch a train into Washington DC and, from there catch a plane, train or automobile to anywhere in the world.
If you went north from Delaware Water Gap, you could probably stop at any number of road crossings in NY state or even into Connecticut from which you could catch an easy ride back to NYC. At one point in NY, the trail crosses a commuter rail line at station from which you can go right back to NYC. Again, I don’t have my maps with me here (I am at work) so I forget names and distances.
