AT Books/Maps To Buy

The Great Whazoo is greatly confused. I don’t know what maps/books/etc. to buy to “prepare for” and “use on” the trail in 2005.
There are maps, guidebooks, AT thru-hikers companion books, AT trail data books.
What do I actually need? Buying all of these books doesn’t seem practical or probable.

thanx for your help.

Buy the ATC’s ALDHA Thruhiker’s Companion to help you plan, and the ATC’s Databook to take with you.

Buy the ATC’s ALDHA Thruhiker’s Companion to plan and ATC’s databook. However, my last hike - and I’m NOT a thruhiker, I found that I needed local trail maps for a variety of reasons (I had to blue blaze some). Subscribing to a few Internet trail groups helped immensely, providing up-to-date Trail reports! Good Luck

Or you can get a “mapdana” (a bandana with a map on it) from http://www.antigravitygear.com It looks to have a good abount of stats and info on it and it is better than a heavy book.
