The Goodloe Byron Memorial Footbridge, which is part of the A.T. and is used by hikers to cross between West Virginia and Maryland over the Potomac River at Harpers Ferry, is temporarily closed due to flooding. Because the U.S. 340 bridge (over the Potomac) is under construction and closed to pedestrians, there is no alternative route for hikers at this time. During the closure, ATC will assist hikers in getting around the flooded section.
