AT databook as .txt file

I've started to transcribe the AT data book into a .txt file so I can carry it on my PDA. Man, that's a lot of typing! I figure since I'm using the PDA to keep my hiking journal and upload it to trailsjournals, it would be nice to have all the trail data there too. I'm only going to enter data from Springer to Harpers Ferry, as that's the section I plan on doing this year. So far, I got all the shelters listed, distances between them, the distance from Springer and land marks up to Frankland, NC entered.

Wonder if it would be legal for me to share the file when its done. I imagine with all the hiker who carry smart phones these days, the data book in electronic formate would make a good product!

Are you taking a solar charger? If so, which one?

If you can share it…I would like to have a copy.

Yes, I have a solar charger, a nice little and cheap one (~20$)from Amazon. Charges into built-in li-ion cell and booster. Not sure how effective it will be, will carry it for awhile and if it don't work out will get sent home. Need to find a way to attach it to outside of pack, so can get light as I hike. Also found a tiny AC charger for Bluetooth headset works to charge PDA.(with power plug adaptor) PDA is HP iPAQ-2498. Might get a spare battery to carry too.

Anyone who wants a copy of my data book text file, send a message to me via the guest book on my 2008 trailsjournal so I have your email address. Will likely take a week to get all the data typed in, will do a few hours at a time. Nice thing about this, you can add to it and use it for planning, etc.

Are you aware that ALDHA's Companion is already available on their website? PDF I believe, so wouldn't be able to modify, but much of the same info.

Just wanted to make sure you were aware of this.
