AT hiker wins Hell's Kitchen

Yup, “Dave” - the winner of last night’s Hell’s Kitchen season finale - hiked the AT in 2005 with his wife. His other name was Piker, and his wife was Miss Mileage.

Dave won the show with a busted and painful injury to his hand/wrist. Pushing through the pain - sounds like a common hiker trait. And then he goes on to win while being essentially one-handed. Nice.

Congrats to Piker! Have a great time in Whistler.

I remember that guy from my 2005 AT thru, and his girl friend (at the time, now wife? Grats!). They were really nice.

They have a good journal here on Trailjournals, AT 05 under Piker and Mileage.

I didn’t know Dave well, only met in Georgia and then just north of the Smokies, but I am not surprised Dave won. He seemed to have energy and ambition.

Did he use an alcohol stove to make Ramen noodles with a side dish of mouse poop?

Congrats Dave! I followed his journal that year. I thought that was him - pulled for him all the way through.

Congrats to you! Didn’t watch the show but would have if I’d known you were competing. Also met Piker and Miss Mileage in 05.

Maybe they should have a mini hell’s kitchen at trail days.

Hikers can compete to make the best meals with an alcohol stove and a few ingredients typically found at a small grocery store. I guess that would be more like Iron Chef.
