AT overlay for Google Earth?

Can anyone point me to a place where I can download a “.KML” file of the AT? I’m particularly interested in the mid-Atlantic (MD, VA), but if there are only full-sets for the entire trail, I can work with that. Also, could work with an Excel sheet of lat/lons. Any ideas would be appreciated. Hiking sections with Boy Scouts preparing for Philmont.
Best regards.

Fran, here you go, from the Google Earth community:

thanks Brian - this is a very helpful dataset and I’ll pass it along to my colleagues. I’d like to continue looking for a more detailed set of GPS fixes along the trail, though, in addition to this set of shelter positions, if anyone else has any info.
I do appreciate the help.

Hay Fran, try www.aldha.org and search the data base. I remember see GPS co-ord someplace on there. They also have the AT data book on line there. Much info

I have AT orthos, shapefiles and geodatabase data for anyone out there who might have ESRI software and are interested.
It’s pretty accurate…I’d say most of it is sub-meter.

Fran, go to http://www.googleearthhacks.com/, they have exactly what you want for the entire trail. every shelter. the trail is a series of angles and strait lines, but the shelters are all marked by GPS and you can of course zoom in or out depending on how well that section is copied.
