Most hikers go north. Some go south. Each have their own reasons for doing what they do. Like most questions about the AT, there is no one right answer for most things.

My opinion only - but doing a SOBO was harder due to the lack of human society; towns/shops/stores close earlier; gets darker earlier. But all of that is just a “mind game” that may not bother others.
