The ATC’s Biennial Meeting is starting up this afternoon in Waterville Valley New Hampshire and runs through August 1st. This is convinient for me, I’m only 20 minutes away so I’ll be going 3 or 4 days. Are any other Trail Forum posters going to be around?

I was going to do volunteer work there but they never got back to me so I guess they had all the help they needed. I will be in the area this weekend and most likely will stop in for a few hours.

The Southern Appalachians Initiative will be a subject for a presentation over the weekend. The presentation will be given by Alison Bullock of the National Park Service, and Mary Margaret Sloan of the Ameican Hiking Society. This is an exciting project that seeks to build a 5000-mile interconnected network of hikingtrails in the Southeast, in part, to take pressure off of the overused AT.

If you’ve got some time, check it out! I’m the Director of the project that’s based in Chattanooga, TN.

I dropped in on the conference this afternoon and they were still looking for help. Not much is going on tonight, dinner, a slide show and some entertainment. The workshops, hikes and excursions start tomorrow afternoon after the morning meeting.
