I am overwhelmed with the many choices for sleeping bags I am looking for ultra light weight 0 degree bag -(winter hiking) with a broad chest area ( I am very big chested)I like long because I sleep with my fuel, clothes, and water sometimes. There are tons of bags that fit this ticket and some are quite expensive. Any reconmendations?? there are sooo many choices. I wouldn’t mind spending more but if I don’t that would be a great!

When I was shopping for a down bag, I came very close to shelling out the bucks for a Big Agnes Storm King. The main reason I didn’t get this bag is that I decided I’m not going to do enough cold-weather backpacking to justify it. So I went with another model and manufacturer. If you’re not familiar with the Big Agnes bag system, the main difference between their design and others is that they use an airpad on the bottom with no down fill. So all of the down is above and around you rather than beneath you where it’s just going to be compressed anyway.

Here’s a link to the Storm King:

Rico,

If I recall correctly, Western Mountaineering will build you a bag to your specifications–including width.

Men’s bags, off the shelf, from various makers, vary in chest width from 58" (ridiculous) to 62" generally, with a size “long” sometimes getting you a 64". For me, that 64" is a minimum, and someday I’m going to have WM build me one past that. (I just like them roomy.)

You’re looking for a Western Mountaineering Kodiak. Rated to zero degrees, as light as they come, and very roomy.

have you considered a quilt? (ray jardine style?)…lightweight…warm …room-y…we loved ours (and we made it for practically nothing!)
