Rednecks. And stay away from MaryLou when you go into town, unless you want a “shotgun” wedding.

Gabriel, I take issue with your comment and since you are scared of the people in Virginia, I rest assured that I wont have to run into you on the trail in my state. Shotgun wedding? Do you really think MaryLou would really give you a second look? Doubtful.
Bump,as you say,the heat will be killer and you may encounter some mosquitoes . With all the rain we’ve had I cant see water being a problem. It should be a wonderful hike and Va is a beautiful state with lots of history.

Well,
Besides ‘rednecks’, polluted water sources, polluted Chesapeake Bay, Kepone(still), shelters near the road, republicans, prisons every 3 miles thanks to Allen, vagabonds on the Skyline… that enough there’s more?

August in SNP will be hot so stay hydrated and take more breaks. Camp where lightning and blowdowns aren’t as likely. Water should be non-polluted coming from springs. I hiked a small section from Rockfish to Beagle Gap yesterday and found parts of the Trail overgrown. Lots of gnats and bees. Didn’t get stung tho’ and to my surprize a thorough tick-check came up negative. MaryLou won’t be a problem since she’s not out there and you’ll smell. Rednecks,if you meet any, are only a problem if you judge them. Tell them how lucky they are to be from around there and ask them what it was like around there when they were young. Some good stories there. 98% are good people.

Thanks David. It more refreshing to read comments from folks like yourself that have good solid advice and actually have something worth saying.
