Check out the Hayduke Trail guide. They go from the Grand Canyon to Zion and Bryce. It’s not a trail but a route and very rough, but it has been done.
The end of the AZT isn’t too far from the Paria - if your timing is right you might get a permit to hike through Paria Canyon (check the BLM site for reservation information) and then you could make your way west through the Escalante and through Zion.

If you have time (and a permit but that might be tricky, don’t ask what we did…) check out the area near the ‘wave’ I guess that’s in the Paria Canyon area Ginny is talking about. The TH is just a mile north of the northern terminus and it has beautiful slick rock with different colors. Such a cool area. I wonder where you would get water however. But you’ll figure something out.

To any body coming behind. There are better motels choices out there. Pine has great cottages–try the RimSide Grill on your left on the way into town—Pine.
There is a motel in the RV park in Roosevelt. Single $55 Just cross the street from the PO. behing the store.
The trail(from Roosevelt to Pine) except for a small section north of Sunshine is a nightmare. Completely over grown with manzanita, scub oak and cat’s claw. Not too bad from Peely to the spring —after that nasty until the road.Mostly the water has been great. Not too much water after the Verde River to Pine. White rock spring and Oak spring are good.I’m take a couple of rest days in Pine and then on to Flagstaff.

Hey Marmot… Will try to find You later after I leave the library.
B.T.W. The info above sounds realy interesting and helpfull. I have a couple of thruhiker friends (lepricon and laura) probebly meeting me in the northern terminus, and we were wondering what we could hike (abviously they will have a car). Any other Ideas for about a week of Hiking?

If possible, you can hike down Buckskin Gulch to Paria to Lee’s Ferry, all accesable from the northern terminus but I think you need a permit from the BLM for the Paria, which should be easy to get.

If you can’t get a permit for the Paria (it’s very popular and permits can be very hard to get) go east to Cedar Mesa. There is a place called Grand Gulch with thousand year old ruins and rock art every couple of miles. It is an incredible experience. You can follow the canyon down for about 40 miles, then turn around and head out another branch or go cross country out of one of the side canyons. Dark Canyon is supposed to be really nice too, but it was still snowbound when we were in the area. If you haven’t hiked that area, Zion and Bryce also have some fantastic areas to explore.
