Be my friend? Longish

I am a fairly accomplished hiker, back packer, over nighter, back country and all that jazz. I feel that its time to go for the whole enchilada and take on the AT as a thru hiker. I feel I know mentally and physically what I am getting myself into and I’m at a point in my life where I feel its time for some self exploration.

A little about me: I’m a 21 year old junior at ETSU and I love the out doors. I’m an English major (don’t judge me by this post)and I love to write. I plan to use my time on the AT to write my memoirs. Twenty one is not to young right? My main reason for writing is not to get gear info or info on the trail, because I feel I am rather well prepared, but of course if you feel the need to give me advice I am more than open to it.

My plan is to leave from Springer Mt in GA in mid march, yes I know about snow in the GSM so its all gravy, or maybe not gravy, but I get it regardless. I plan to take my dog felix, yes I know about hiking with dogs, leashes and where he is and is not allowed, his trash gets packed out too btw  Just making sure that covered because I know some of you would be concerned.

Sorry I accidentally sent that first bit.

But anyway…so the point of my post is to hopefully meet a hiking buddy or buddies. I am more than willing to go it alone with the pooch, but I feel a like minded person would enrich the experience. My expectations of my buddy would be low for the most part and if my potential hiking pal wants to split off at times thats all good, I want to hike my own hike with some one who is paralleing me on their own hiking experience if that makes sense.

I expect to end up in Katahdin, Maine by Sept. I am in this for the long haul…neither bugs, nor snow, nor rain, nor hell or high water will keep me from ending my adventure…death and broken bones maybe, but other than that I’m on it…whos with me? Advice is welcome as long as its a genuine sort of advice…

Happy trails!:girl

Would you mind if i ask why you picked the AT to do first? The PCT may be longer but it is much easier to do for a first timer’s introduction to long trail hiking.

I have actually done pieces of the AT (from day to week long treks). I live in Johnson City, TN…about 35 miles off the trail. It has been a goal of mine to do a full thru hike for quite a while and now the time is right. The PCT is to far away and I like that alot of my friends live all along the trail (with in an hours drive) and are interested in doing parts with me.
