Bear bags - The Colorado Trail

Colorado native here! I do not recommend camping anywhere in Colorado without bear bags. Please read up on bear safety and adhere to the principles seriously. This is not something to take lightly or flirt with. The “better safe than sorry” principle applies here, also common sense, also safe hiker.

An angel camp is just a camp set up to assist hikers. Everything is basically free. The menu can range from free Kool Aid to steak and wine. (Our menu is on the low end…) But we have transportation to town for resupply or emergencies. We also have shelter from the elements ,a stove, and fresh water. 2 of our angels are AT thru-hikers. Some angels just leave a cooler by the trail and stay anonymous. APPLE

T,T,C is right. Recently a bear attacked a guy in his backyard in Durango. The bear was killed. Frankly, I do not care if a bear gets your food and you have to walk to town hungry. What I do care about is that bear will end up dead.:frowning:

We had a yearling male black bear in our garage during the heat of the day this summer, and it caused quite a shock to my wife. The garage door had only been open for about 10 minutes. Unfortunately, two yearlings had to be put down by the Colorado DOW already this year in our neighborhood. If a bear gets your food, and unhealthy association is imprinted in their brains, and repeat visits are almost a guarantee. I wince every time I’m high up in Waterton Canyon and see people feeding the mountain sheep. Please stay away from the wildlife, and for goodness sake, hang your food.
