Bear canisters in flight

I was wonder, with all the restrictions currently going on as to what you can and cannot take on a flight, if anyone has had any problem flying with a bear canister… I don;t plan to carry it on board, ut rather check it with my pack…but I got the canister a day or so ago…and…its black, 9" in diameter and about 14" long…and you know what it looks like…any comments would be appreciated quickly. I fly out on Monday…should I send it separately via express mail to Yosemite Village Post Office?..Thanks for your help

I flew with one just like that about a month ago to Portland OR. I packed it in the duffel bag with the top off the canister so it could be looked in easily and sent it through. If TSA has a question they open up your bag and look. TSA was more interested in my cook set, (it was taken apart) than my bear can. I think they were looking for fuel.

Bob, If you are worried, then don’t pack you food in the can and leave the can open. If for some reason your can does not arrive with your bags, I will loan you my Berikade for the entire trip.
If you are having any problems making bus/train connections in San Francisco on your arrival. Call me. I work at SFIA. You already know my contact info.

Have a great trip!

You can fly with a firearm as long as you check it in. So I really wouldn’t worry about a bear can.
