Are bear canisters required on the CT? Are park rangers as anal as in other places like Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada in California? Thanx for the info.

The only reason park rangers are “anal” in that part of the Sierra’s is because some campers have their heads stuck up their pie holes.
Most backpackers know how to handle food but many Valley campers do not. When the bears become conditioned to people food and break in to get it, the worst are sent up to the back country. Backpackers have to deal with the rouge bruins and one effective way is to carry heavy, bulky cannisters.
I do wish the park service would place bear-cables up like in the Smokies.
