Bear lines - Appalachian Trail

So i have done a flip-flop. My question is : do I need to be more concerned about hanging a bear line up north. I have never had an issue and often times hang my food in the shelter with me. I assume that this is still going to be okay, but was wanting to get some opinions.
Thanks, Nokia

heres the way it goes with bears. in new jersey they are notorious, but in most problem areas they provide bear boxes. there has been an exponential increase in bear activity in norther ct and ma this season. they (we) are working on installing bear boxes and lines. most activity has been bears getting at unattended food, so that dropping your pack while you walk to the shelter is no go. still in the north bears are timid. we must all take personal responsibility to keep it this way. so do not leave it unattended. bears in this region are very unlikely to approach a camp with several people, but if it is just you in the shelter or at camp, mr bear could very well try his luck. so in summation i would be sure to hang it when camping solo, since tents are expensive and a bear can really f### one up. being alive is cool too. but i dont think they will mess with a bunch of people.

if a bear gets to your food you have screwed up that bear. just dont let it happen. i can speak for ma and ct, and certainly believe it is way worth the slight inconvenience to hang a bear line.
