Just out of curiosity,
What was your profession before your hike?
And what are you doing now after the hike?

Before my hike I was a student at the university of vermont. Now I’m an even poorer but somewhat wiser student who has even more to procrastinate about (dreaming of the Trail
A-Train

Great, now I have one of those earwigs after reading the above. Let’s see…“Sympathy for the Devil” by the Rolling Stones, Beggar’s Banquest album 1968 (pre-dating my birth by 5 years). Probably because I used to think the song was called “Then and now…”
I will be like A-Train, a student before, and an even poorer student after, albeit in medical school (hopefully) instead. :tongue

Pre-hike, I worked an office job, as a graphic artist.
Now, I am working in a retail import store, and am working toward getting back into school.
I couldn’t go back to an office job. I tried; I even revised my resume to send off, but I couldn’t bring myself to hitting the send button on the fax.

back in 2000 i was working in the construction industry. one night i realized that i was going to hike the AT. 12 days later i’d quit my job, moved out of my apartment, and was standing on springer.
i haven’t really held a real job since then. maybe i’m a photographer and writer? maybe.

I run the night time operation of an airfreight firm. Not much delegating as i’m the only one here
Dislike my job, disliked it before the last 3 times i’ve left it but hey… it’s a means to an end. When i get back, who know’s. Hopefuly not this. I remain positive that I’ll be able to put certain things into perspective and work out a way of paying off my monstrous debts??? (That will hopefuly involve a very beautiful, very rich woman falling madly in love with me)

Well, I was managing a major construction project on Boston’s Big Dig. But, had a major health issue that was a wake up call. So, finished up the job, took care of my health, and started walking the trail.
Today, I do more volunteer work and some consulting. Volunteer work includes a major involvement with last summer’s ATC conference, Scouts, and other interests.

I was an optician/manager before, graduating with an MBA before hitting the trail. Then, got back, got promoted, got tired of it and am back in school again to be an optometrist. If anything, the trail made me realize I could do just about anything I set my mind to and it’s never too late to change direction.:nerd

This is a great topic. Notice my fellow hikers how no one so far has gone back to their old job or career… I wonder why???
Before my hike I was a Project manager in the I.T. industry. Now I am semi-retired and wirk part time with my wife in her mail order craft business.
I have been offered a couple of jobs in the I.T. industry since returning but no longer want to put up with the commuting, the pressure and the BS.

I run a small Handy Man company, building, remodling homes. when i return i expect to go ahead and get my general contractors liscense so I can be more productive and charge what the big boys charge.
Ross, since I already married a beautiful rich girl, i know anything is possible…funny thing is first rich girl divorced me, so i found a loving one this time as well. Best of luck.
