I’m a little late to the thread, but i agree on Out of Order, Gesh, Recline, and Cloudspotter. Some very different angles on the trail: Out of Order reads like entertaining fiction, Gesh is introspective, Recline is the misanthropic but likeable alternative, and Cloudspotter actually writes like a good writer.
Add to that list Scout and Frodo. They have a nice balance between them of introspection and trail facts, and it’s a nice change to read from someone older than 40. Pink Gumby’s video journals are an interesting potrayal of someone who quits the trail early on. It also makes a nice balance to reading the people who adjust more naturally to the trail and finish in Canada. Heck, all the journals are great…i’m a junkie.
