Best bleach-carrying container

I’m treating water this year with bleach. What’s the best drop-dispensing container to carry it in? (Refillable, with a tight lid and cap, and preferably light.)

Eye dropper bottles for dispensing essential oils, etc., are easily found but are typically glass.

Thanks, all you gear junkies!

You can probably find something in the Nalgene line to suit your needs. You may have to have a larger container, and then decant into the smaller with the dropper. Have a great trip…:tongue

I’d suggest something like a Platypus for the larger container.

We have been using bleach for years (2 drop per liter). We use an empty aqu-mira bottle. The top comes off for filling. You use it as a dropper, there a separate top. never leaked. enough in the bottle for months.

Swamp Fox, I don’t use bleach but I do carry a small medicine bottle of powdered chlorine from my swimming pool. I usually use my filter but on a couple of occasions I’ve had to use the powered pool chlorine and it seems to work well. I use about 1 teaspoon per liter - hasn’t killed me yet, but then again,:x

Eye drops bottle. Holds about 1/2 an oz which is plenty.

“Who Knows”

I see some good ideas to your question on the thread. If you haven’t found your answer, you may want to look at a ranch supply store such as Big R. Look in the section with where they have veterinarian items (containers, dispensers, syringes, etc). I often go looking in such places and sometimes I get lucky and find something I can use or modify. Improvise! You may want to look in a pharmacy and ask the pharmacist/staff. Sometimes they may just give you a little bottle or dropper from behind the counter.

Good Luck!

It sounds like using bleach to purify water is a great idea. Where do you find bleach that doesn’t have fragrance or other additives? Also someone said 2 drops per liter. How long do you have to wait before you drink it?

No, chlorine dioxide is not chlorine or bleach, it is a chemical compound made up of one part chlorine and two parts oxygen (the formula CLO2.) While chlorine dioxide does have that same “clean” or “crisp” smell that bleach and chlorine have (all are oxidants which means that they oxidize the cell wall of a pathogen to kill it), CLO2 is far more powerful and safer for you and the environment. CLO2 is more effective against odor causing agents and, equally important, CLO2 does not produce carcinogenic by-products such as THM’s (e.g. chloroform), as chlorine and bleach do. CLO2 breaks down to salt & water, which is why, in lesser quantities, it can be safely used to purify drinking water.

Yes, the EPA lists two drops per liter for relatively clear water. If it cloudy it will take more. The bleach you are looking for is regular Clorox bleach. It will have a hypo level of at least 6%.
