Best Free-Standing Tent

I am interested in buying a light free-standing tent that could handle a little bit of snow. Any favorites? I’m especially looking for something thats easy to set up.

J, I don’t know what’s best but many AT hikers have happily used MSR’s Hubba Hubba.

There’s the Black Diamond Firstlite Tent, Hilleberg Akto…if not check out backcountrygear.com …a very good listing of ultralight gear.

you may want to look at the henry shires tarptent.com double rainbow. this is a 2.5 pound 2 person free-standing tent. the design looks very cool. i’ve ordered one for my thru-hike of the AT, but have yet to test it out. it gets good reviews…

Check out the Big Agnes Seedhouse Superlight tents. http://www.bigagnes.com/str_tents.php?id=sh1sl
I used this for much of my AT Thru-hike last year and I never got wet. It handled snow and rain wonderfully.

REI quaterdome tent. Room for 2 or one with ample room for gear. Getting rid of extra pegs, straps, etc cuts weight to under 4 lbs.

I was looking at the Rainbow but I wasn’t sure how it would stand up to high wind, rain or snow. Does anyone have any experiences in these conditions?

I’ll second the Big Agnes Seedhouse. I also used it on my 2006 AT thru-hike and plan on using it again on my 2007 PCT thru-hike. Don’t let the number of stakes discourage you. I got by with only using 6 of them.
