Best Guide Books?

Having read the opinions of the class of 07 on what to use to navigate. I’ve come to the conclusion that using forest maps are the way to go. Is that true? These guide books and maps aren’t worth the paper they are printed on from whom i’m run into on this subject. I’m not looking for the one million dollar answer but do enlighten me on this topic.
Thanks

Mr. Ley has a set of maps he produced following his route. http://www.phlumf.com/travels/cdt/index.shtml

We used Jonathan’s maps along with National Forest, BLM and other maps. The Ley maps are good for the trail notes on the maps, but don’t include many of the side roads and trails that help keep you oriented.
The list can be found at http://spiriteaglehome.com/cdt06%20maps.html

There are two completely different sets of guidebooks. One set is put out by Jim Wolf and is very good with detailed information on the trail and the water sources. The other set was published by Westcliffe Publishing and has consistently gotten bad reviews from thruhikers. The Wolf books are a necessity if you hope to find the often hard to find springs.
