What are your favorite AT journals from 2005?

J. Howland

I recommend the Troll Family (Troll, Anchor, and Oblivious), Cuppa Joe, Gypsy Lulu and Touk(even if they did forget to write sometimes), and Dorothy and Toto for some good reading.

Stumpknocker is by far one of the best!!! I have read all of his journals. He really captures what has happened during the day.

Yeah, Buddha is a stitch, and Girl Next Door is funny too. Great, sassy, funny women.

Speaking of sassy women, Oprah has made a good pick in Stumpknocker. He’s one of the regular guys on the trail. Her upcoming book club pick should put him on the national map. Plus, deep down, he’s such an Oxygen channel guy.

I enjoyed the heck out of Break A Leg’s journal. I had withdrawal symptoms when she quit writing.

I have ot agree with Red Hat The Troll Journal is great. nothing like reading about a kid who hikes the AT. They don,t call him Oblivous for nothing.

I agree with Red Hat, the Troll family 2005 journal entries and photos are/were great. I also liked Big Daddy D and JAWS (before he quit).

PaPa Larry

I enjoyed reading Sal Paradise’s journal. They weren’t too frequent but were long, and a couple decent pictures.

Captain Patagonia! Scholar. Loved Buddah’s, wish she had one on the AT too. LongHaul. Both of Hydro Heidi’s journals! Cuppa Joe. I am forgetting someone I know but I am off to read Stumpknockers because I am unfamilar with him. Peace.

I followed the No Name Newlyweds and really enjoyed Kirk’s writing; he’s one of the best writers I’ve come across on this site. Kirk and Lisa had a hike that included time off the trail while Lisa had a significant surgery; however, they were determined to complete what they started and returned to the trail and finished their journey as soon as Lisa was well enough.

Hi…Jan LS’s mention of Oprah’s endorsement of Stumpknocker’s book; made me want to read his journal. But what was the title of his book?

Leah

The Trolls are a hoot! I especially liked the time Anchor tried to kill me and how she couldn’t see the orange signs because they don’t stick out against green! Little known fact, Oblivious kept the mohawk!

Hi Leah, it’s been awhile since he mentioned it, I was hoping he’d weigh in here. Of course, his friends love to see his sensitive side coming out.
