Best PCT tent - Pacific Crest Trail

I’ve hiked about half the PCT via two section hikes. Last summer I was shocked by how fierce the mosquitoes were in the Sierras. My single-wall, tarp-like tent has a clip in bug nest but is a hassle to set up, especially while being bit by 100 mosquitoes.

What’s a good all-around PCT tent that’s light, easy to set up, and protects against rain and bugs? Lots of hikers use a Henry Shires tent, but even then, there are several models to chose from.

Thanks!

I’m currently using a Sublite Tarptent. Actually, it’s my home-sewn version of a Sublite. Very light, very small footprint made of sil-ny.

I’ve used Henry Shire’s tents over the years (Virga 2 model) on PCT thru-hikes. They are good tents & affordable.

I now use a ZPacks Hexamid Solo tent, which is more expensive (cuben fiber material is more $ than silnylon), but much lighter. The trade-off is paying more $ for a lighter tent. Both brands are well made & are highly recommended.

Happy Trails!

I made a mid style tarp like the MLD solomid with a bug inner.

I agree with Free bird . The Z PACKS Hexamid solo will be the best. Super light, Screened door and floor. Used tyvek inside for a ground sheet,6 stakes.Total weight approximately 1 pound. Used on AT last year, it also did well in the snow. Good luck to you and God bless. Bubblegum
