Best sections? - The Colorado Trail

I’ll be flying into DEN on 4/13 in the evening.
I’ll be flying out of DEN on 4/22 in the afternoon.
I’ll have roughly 8 1/2 days of hiking. I tend to do 15-20 miles (or more)/day on the John Muir Trail; I’ve done as much as 25/day in the Sierras.

I can either take the shuttle over to copper mountain and hike back or I can hike out and take the shuttle back.

1)Is this the best section that I could do? Would it be better to go from Copper Mountain to US 50? if so, how would I get back?

  1. Which direction is better?

  2. Is this kind of distance feasible?

  3. If I want to go further or climb something, is there something that I could climb along the way?

You will need backcountry skis and good climbing skins. Likely none of the trail will be snow free. Segments 1-3 probably, but not for sure, will be passable. Segments 13 from Avalanche Trailhead thru segment 14 likely will be passable.

There will be good skiing at that time at most areas.

If you like to backcountry ski then check this:
