Where does everyone buy their Bear pepper spray? This site has some great EPA approved bear spray that is effective on all species of bear. The bear sitings and encounters seem to be up from north to south on the AT. Guess it’s the dryer weather and ever-growing residential and commercial growth effecting the bears’ normal stomping grounds. I know I’m not going to caught dead without mine!

Sorry to tell you man, but even though I did the trail back in 92, you won’t need bear spray on the AT. Hell, you don’t even need it on the PCT, but maybe on the far northern parts of the CDT( for griz).
Don’t buy it, don’t take it! It’s a waste of money and weight. Bug dope is more important for skeeters and black flies. I’ve met hundreds(no lie) of hikers/backpackers/ thruhikers and NONE of them carried pepper spray. You’ll have more of a problem keeping the mice out of your food bag. Remember, at night in the shelters, before you go to bed, leave all of your pack pockets open! That way the little critters that feed at night won’t chew a hole thru your pack to get at the food that isn’t supposed to be there.

I agree Hair spray! Thats it! the bears will smell the hair spray and run away (thinking that there was a soccer mom nearby will scare most mammals any way). and the mice would have a hard time getting through the Aqua-net

I agree with most post that you probable don’t need Bear Spray for Bears.
However,like Lost Louise,I carry Mace for any unleashed Dogs
that need a lesson in humility.Lots of companies carry Mace/Pepper spray,just Google “Bear Spray”.
