On the trail I would like to visit friends who live in Bloomington, Indiana, not far away from Louiville KY.
Where is the beat point on the trail which be ideal for taking a train or bus in that direction?

My guess is probably somewhere in VA. Amtrak does travel thru NC on its way to New Orleans. In Abingdon VA, near Damascus you can catch a bus that might feed into a route heading toward KY.

I live in Louisville. Amtrak canceled it’s Cardinel services directly into Louisville. Last I heard there was still service in Jeff. Ind. May not be there anymore due to the country’s economy. Part of reason Amtrak failed for Louisville was the prices which were not competitive with rental cars or even the Grayhound bus which IS in Louisville and lets you out on 8th st. downtown (watch your stuff!). We have the Knobstone Trail right across the river in Borden Ind., beginning at Deams Lake and ending at the Delaney Loop. Otter Creek in Muldraugh (Ft. Knox) has some nice day trails. Email me if you want more info.
