What does your tent/pack/sleepingbag+pad weight total? I’m starting sobo so I am interested in your colder weather set ups, but summer and UL #'s would be interesting too.

For colder weather, I use a Gossamer Gear G-5 pack (discontinued) at 9 oz, six sections of Z-rest pad at 6 oz, a Marmot Helium 15 bag at 32 oz, and a Tarptent Contrail at 23 oz, for a total of 53 oz. In summer on the AT I used a MH Phantom 45 bag at 17 oz, all else was the same.

ULA Circuit, tarp tent, tyvek and pad, and my 40 plus year old REI down bag = 7 pounds. Call it 8 pounds if you include my hiking/tent poles.

ULA Catalyst (small) = 47 oz; Six Moons Lunar Solo = 27 oz (in bag, including stakes); West Mt Ultralight 20 Deg = 29 oz (as packaged); REI cocoon silk liner = 5 oz; Big Agness Clearview Air 20" x 60" x 2.5" mummy = 13 oz. Total = 121 oz (7.5 lbs). Heavy, by ultralight standards, but reasonably comfortable.

ULA Catalyst (older version) ~ 3lbs.
Shires Contrail ~ 1.5 lbs.
Golite quilt ~ 1.5 lbs.
Thermarest Trail ~ 1 lb.

Total = 7 lbs.

If Neo-Airs were cheaper, i’d get that for a lighter pad. The pack and quilt are keepers, even if the quilt is cheaply made. If anticipating bad or winter conditions, i use an MSR Hubba, which adds a pound for a total of 8 lbs.

This is what I used on the entire PCT last year with good results which included several nights into the low 20s with snow falling.

'09 ULA Circuit with most options (42oz),
MLD Grace Solo cuben fiber tarp (with stakes/lines/sack)+MLD Superlite Bivy sack: 15oz
GoLite Ultra20 quilt (straps removed): 19oz
Gossemer Gear TorsoPad +1/8"thinlight Pad: 5.4oz

For a total of: 5lbs 1.4oz

This is helping me out alot! My 6.75 lbs of homemade gear is not as out of line as I thought. Stay warm 'enuff to survive out there!

Tent: Gatewood Cape (12 oz)
Pack: z-packs.com (7 oz)
Sleeping Bag: Mountain Hardware Phantom +32 (22 oz)
Pad: Neo-Air (9 oz)

Total: 3 pounds 2 ounces

I will also carry a light down jacket and tights the entire trail and may sleep in them on colder nights. I may also add a liner for the sierra.

I’m also hiking SOBO and this is my first experience with this light of a setup.
