Yes, it is still there. They redid the roof a few years ago so it no longer leaks on you in a rainstorm (been there when it did leak). Water is available in a small brook near the shelter. This year, the water has been good on most parts of the LT, so I expect it will not be a problem. If, by some slim chance, the stream IS dry, take the blue blazed side trail (right in front of the shelter) down about 1/4 mile and you will cross a bigger brook which should be running good. Oh yes, since you are going southbound, you will come to Cowles Cove shelter, about 3 miles before Birch Glen Camp. It has a nice brook to fill up in. The 3 miles is not a bad hike (save for the first mile from Cowles Cove), so carrying water in for the night won’t be an issue (but you probably will not need to be concerned).
