My family is telling me that the AT goes near Blowing Rock and Boone, NC. Can anyone tell me where to look on my maps to see how far the trail is from these locations. I went to school in Boone, and was skiing at Beech Mountain years ago. I thought the trail near Blowing Rock and Boone were a different trail. If the trail goes near either of these locations, I have family in the area where I might overnight during my AT Adventure. Thank you in advance. I sincerely appreciate any and all responses.

Hey,
I hiked the AT in 2005 and afterwards attended Appaalchain State in Boone, NC (watugua county). I now live in boone and as fae as I know the closest access point to the AT is 30 miles away. you can acess it where the trail crosses 421 by Watagua lake in Tenn. or a few miles up on Denis Cove Rd. near the Kincora Hostel.
The mountain to sea trail goes throuh blowing rock/boone though.

Thanks, I graduated from Appalachian State in 1972. Boone was real small back then. Is it growing? Thanks again.

OH yes, it is growing.

If you haven’t been back to Boone since 1972 you really should make the trip. You ABSOLUTELY would NOT recognize the place. Great place to visit now.

Thanks. I will be making a trip soon. I loved it when I was there. Is the Daniel Boon Inn still there? They had the very best bisquits I have ever eaten. This is getting a little off of the hiking agenda. I appreciate the patience of the rest of you.

The Daniel Boone Inn is still there. Still serving family style brekfast and dinners.
