The answers to Good Blue Blazes were outstanding. What about good blue blazes between Georgia and Virginia? Thank you in advance.

The blue blaze water source I was trying to think of was Wesser Bald…the Nantahala Forest in north Carolina has tons of trails…I’ve done Kimsey Creek and a few others…here’s Gorp’s listings:

You could always do the Benton McKay instead. Few hikers, not many shelters, lots of solitude… and it still goes to Springer!

I wouldn’t call the Benton Mackaye Trail the ultimate blue blaze. I hiked the original 90 mile segment from Springer to the Ocoee River last year. There are very few views, very few good water sources, and a general lack of maintenance in places. It was a fun change from the AT, but I think the AT is far superior.
I was planning on thru-hiking the BMT up to Davenport Gap in the Smokies, but after running into “Book Burner” (hiking SOBO) at the one shelter on the trail, i decided to get a ride back to the AT @ Wesser. Book Burner looked like he had been through a long term war with blackberrry bushes! The owner of the “White House B&B” in Ducktown, TN (awesome place to stay) wanted to take him to the hospital!
I would highly recommend the short (1.2 miles roundtrip) blue blaze to Mt. Cammerer fire lookout near the northern end of the Smokies. Besides the summit of Katahdin, its my favorite spot on the AT.
