hello everyone,
i’ll be starting my thru-hike in mid-may. according to the literature i have at my disposal the blueberry patch hostel stays open only until may 1. is this correct? i really need this for a maildrop and to avoid the 11 or so mile trek into town. any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Yes, Kilgore, if that’s the date they say this year, then they will be closed. I believe it was 4/30 last year, so that makes sense. I fortunately just made it by about 5 days last year. I don’t know if Gary would still accept a mail drop or not, it’s not like they go anywhere, I think they just get busy with the farm. You might try calling and asking him that (and perhaps offering a small holding fee if it’s worth that much to you). He’s a very reasonable person. Otherwise, you’re sure to get a hitch into town, I had some of my best hitching experience right there, maybe just cause it was my first (in life).
Perhaps none of my business, but why do you feel you need a maildrop so soon? I resupplied along the way and only used drops for maps and essential toiletries I didn’t want to search for in towns or wouldn’t be able to find in the smaller quantities I wanted to carry.
