What is the name of a good book about the trail and where do i get maps? thanks

The Colorado Trail Guidebook and The Colorado Trail Map Book - available from The Colorado Trail Foundation. (www.coloradotrail.org) The databook is out of date but a new one will come out this summer.

thanks. what do you need to take with you…the map book and the data book or can you just get by with the data book. thanks, christina

When I hiked it I just used the National Geographic maps and the data book. They worked just fine. I also printed a data sheet from a former through hiker I think it was Yogi if I’m not mistaking. That also had some very good info.

Do you mean the nat geog maps you get from the magazine? i so where do you get these maps…just trying to find the cheapest and lightest way.

Sorry Mags it was you that wrote the guide I was talking about and not Yogi. Well worth carrying with you. Christine the maps I purchased on line from Delorme. They are large weather proof maps and you need about 10 of them for the entire trail.

I am the co-author of the “Colorado Trail Map Book”.

This book is the ONLY map collection for the CT that is correct and up to date. It costs $45. That is way cheaper than buying multiple Nat’l Geographic or any other map sets. It also has the trail located 100% correctly for the 2009 season. It is printed on demand which is why it’s a bit pricey, but that makes it possible to keep it completely up to date.
