Hello, I just moved to Boone, NC and was wondering if someone can tell me the closest trail head. Iv hiked the AT last summer and know the trail but, just not sure where I can pick it up from here and Springer Mountain isnt an option again

from boone, you can pick up the trail at a couple of places…
elk park- take highway 105 out of boone to highway 184. turn right onto 184 and take that into banner elk. at the stop light in banner elk, turn left onto highway 194. take 194 to the stop sign in elk park and turn right onto highway 19E. the AT crosses 19E in about a mile or so. (probably takes about forty to forty five minutes from boone)
watauga lake- follow highway 321 north from boone all the way to the trail crossing at watauga lake. lots of winding roads. (probably takes about an hour or so from boone)

you could leave Boone and drive over to Mountain City than up to Damascus and hike the Grayson Highlands area back to Damascus… I wouold also consider hiking the Roan Highlands south of Damascus.
Boone is a cool ass town. I loved living near it… Nice laid back hippie feel to town.
