Boot Inserts - Appalachian Trail

Does anyone out there use the flat Spenco slip ins (no arch). I have tried them and they seem OK(my boots ahe built in arch). I feel like I might be missing something but supefeet etc. with arches just do not work for me. Just wondering about other peoples experiences. Thanks

I started carrying Spenco insoles when I’m expecting lots of road walking, all too common on many of the trails I’ve done lately out West. They stay in my pack until I hit pavement. I feel no need for them if I’m walking on dirt and rocks.

The first time I tried regular (green) Superfeet, it felt like logs under my arches. Then years later someone turned me on to the lower volume Superfeet (blue) and they’re OK. I feel like I get some marginal return from them, maybe not worth the purchase price but they certainly don’t hurt. I think they helped on the rocks in PA and New England for some better support in my flimsy trail runners.

All I use are the green Spencos. I hiked the AT in them, work in them, they last forever. No pains, even on high mileage(20+) days. Uh, I’m 160#s. 25# pack, max.
