Haw anyone worn the Asolo Stynger GTX Women’s boot while backpacking the JMT? Is it adequate for the high, rocky passes? How much weight were you carrying? Thanks!

Forgetwho
Hello. I hiked the JMT Aug-Sep 2011 with my brother and I wore New Balance running shoes. At the start hiking up Whitney Portal my pack weighted a good 50 lbs. I was torn between the New Balances that my brother recommended and a better pair of hiking boots. I have no regrets with the shoes i wore.

I have had 3 pairs of men’s Asolo GTX boots (or perhaps equivalent - getting old and forgetting sucks). I used them for 17-day solo loops from the Eastern Sierra into Sequoia / Kings Canyon with a starting pack weight over 50 lbs. Trails and cross country rougher than anything on the JMT… No complaints about the boots.

I am on my 4th pair. I wear them daily, summer and winter and they seem to last 2 years. My wife is small so I usually get stuck with the roll of being the family mule. I usually carry a 60-70 lb pack and have no problems with these boots. I truly believe that these are one of the best boosts that you can buy.
