Border: US 2 Canada

We’re locals from Seattle lookin to do the PCT from Rainey Pass to Canada in two weeks ( a week after Labor Day). We were figuring on staging a car at Manning, continuing on to Rainey in a 2nd vehicle, and hiking thru to Canada. Can folks give me some straight talk on the border crossing? If we have proper ID are we gonna get hassled? I’ve seen reference to a downloadable form to send to Canada two months prior to departure.

You’re not likely to see any border guards on the PCT into Canada, but it is possible that you’ll encounter one. The Canadian rangers (or whatever they’re called) have been known in the past to ask hikers for their proper forms.

Personally, I wouldn’t worry about it. Just make sure you have a passport with you.

Hi Dirtbagg,
Agree with Yogi, shouldn’t be a hassle if you carry passport ID.
My ‘border’ crossing into Canada was quite entertaining in retrospect! (If interested, you can check out my experience at http://www.angelfire.com/trek/nz_usa/Epilogue.html

I just crossed the border last week. Didn’t see a soul between Hart’s Pass and Manning. I’d just make sure you have your passport at least. Other than that, it’s all gravy!
