What items do you or would you include in your bounce box?

First question to figure out is do you really need a bounce box? Many people do just fine without a bounce box.

Generally things that go in a bounce box are items that need to be replenished periodically. Items that you need, but don’t want to carry for 5 months. Examples include:

Remaining maps
Sections of the ALDHA Companion or Wingfoot (cut the binding off)
Prescription medicines
Camera Film (if using slides)

Slightly off topic, but what do you use to bind the seciont of the Companion/Guide that you are currently using? I saw a thru use a little plastic sleeve, but I don’t know where he got it.

Maps, extra t/p, a set of town clothes so you can wash everything at one time, slide film and mailer envelopes, drugs, a tube of peach pit scrub to keep the face clean, girly stuff, cross word puzzles, some batteries. Batteries at a gas station are like sickly priced; $7.50 for four AA’s, get the trekking pole out of your arm.

I didn’t use a bounce box, but they’d be great for sending food on to stops that don’t have a grocery or much/expensive resupply.
I tore out my Handbook pages, too. Maybe saves a quarter pound. I used a staple to bind the pages. A ziplock works fine to store the pages in, otherwise you should be able to find some good binders from some office store.

start with an empty box.

the first resupply (if you buy food etc), put what you dont want in the box and ship to the next resupply point…

things will start to fill up (food, extra TP, nail clippers, that not fully used box of ziplocks, etc, etc, etc).

after the 5th or 6th bounce it will be so full you will wonder at what to remove…

I used a bounce box for a battery charger, clippers (for the beard) and extra food plastic bags that I knew I’d use at some time.

i was planning on having a bounce box for some of the above listed items. i like the idea of having clean trail clothes too. vitamins, etc. does this get to be a pain? i imagine it also gets expensive? what do folks do that don’t use a bounce box? say for vitamins and stuff?
