Bounce bucket - Pacific Crest Trail

I’m looking into using a bounce bucket on the PCT. How much does it costs to send a bounce bucket ahead on the trail? I realize it depends on the weight, but any ideas would be great. Thanks!

save your money and buy supplies as you go along, j-walk. areas such as stevens pass WA, you need a bb, whitewater WA yep, just a gas station with limited supplies. No issues in OR, Cali isn’t anything to be concerned about…very easy hitches into town. My folks were sending bb from MA, and yes it was $$$$ try 40 bucks just to send it, and another 30 for food. After they told me how much they spent, i was like dude, i’m gonna wing it. its turns out better that way.
That’s what i’ll be doing on the CDT this year, winging my resupply stops.
it turns out to be a better experience this way…well it did for me.

cheers

Buy as you go is a nice option, and I would suggest that for all your food, but I found using a bounce box/bucket is a nice compliment. It is pricey anywhere from 7-15 bucks to send it on. I kept things like extra batteries, tape, varoius patching stuff, little things and luxury food stuff I knew I wouldnt find in town in the box. Plus its nice to switch out clothes and stuff depending on the weather ahead. It was comforting to me to know i had a little something ahead of mine to look forward to getting, like a clean town dress, then I could just put it back in the box and send it on. Not to shabby to have something to wear doing laundry other than rain gear!

Overall, it cost me anywhere between $10 and $17 in 2003 to forward my bucket up the trail, except for the first mailing from Indiana to Warner Springs. Sending it home was cheapest, as it was almost empty. Also, sending via parcel post (3rd class) vs. priority will change the price somewhat. I did some of both, depending on distance and time to my next pick up.

I sent mine from:

Home to Warner Springs
Warner springs to Big Bear
Big Bear to Mojave
Mojave to Tuolumne
Tuolumne to Sierra City
Sierra City to Castella
Castella to Ashland
Ashland to Cascade Locks
Cascade Locks to Skykomish
Skykomish to home

Always have one on my long hikes for the things I want to shed off my back but may need later in the hike.
Here is an item you can put in your food boxes: Fill up empty films cans with Pert shampoo/conditioner, then tape with duct tape. You’ll be glad it’s in your food box when you come into town.
