Breeze & Center of Gravity

Question for Breeze owners:

With the absence of a hipbelt does the Breeze stay fairly close in against your back and center of gravity? Put another way, does it ride close and tight on your back or is it a much looser fit than would be had with a belt and sternum strap snugged up tight?

If it is a looser fit does this generate undue back strain in anyway (other than the shoulder pain some have experienced)?

I had pretty much settled on the Breeze, but in discussing this with a chiropracter he advised that having the load in as close as possible to the center of gravity, which he suggested would be better achieved with a hipbelt and sternum straps, would ultimately be less stressful to the back. He may well be thinking of more traditional loads though and maybe the sub 20 pound load in a Breeze negates this notion.

Just when you think you’ve got it all figred out! So now I’m also considering the ULA P1.

Thanks for any input.

The Breeze rides snug against the back, just like a schoolbag full of books. I don’t think a sternum strap or hipbelt would make much difference in that regard.

I agree with Eric, the hip belt and chest strap are OK if you intend to carry a substantial load (30lbs or more) but the Breeze is designed specificly for the lighter load. Yes, it is comfortable on your shoulders, as long as you keep the weight down and pack it well. Depending on how light you go, you can carry it on one shoulder, then alternate. Check out www.rayjardine.com. After all, he designed it, I’m sure he’s got something to say about it.
