I just picked up the 04 data book and noticed The Bromley tent area in Vermont is no longer listed. Now there is Bromley shelter. Is this a new shelter? Are the tent platforms still there?

There was a tenting area in 2003, but it was close to the road. I believe they were building a new shelter, however, I would recommend either staying at the shelter before the road crossing to manchester ctr, if it’s cold because it is enclosed and has a wood stove. or, go past the road crossing and the campsite/shelter to the bromley warming hut…which also has a phone you can use if you have a calling card. this way, you make the big climb and there is an observation platform there with good views if it’s not foggy/rainy. you do need to bring water up there though. if you privately email me, i can give you the name and email address of a local who might be able to help out with a place to stay. she has BOOT WARMERS!

In September 2003 The GMC built a new shelter near Bromley two miles from the road (Rte 11/30. It is a three sided timber frame structure with room for 12. They also built four tent platforms at the shelter site.

Thanks Celt, I always go into manchester ctr, I like to stay late, and then just hike to what used to be the platforms. Now I will just go a little further to the new site.

Hi Chef,

They took down all of the platforms at the Bromley Tent area, but the New Bromley shelter is just up the trail a little ways.

Happy Trails
