Hiked with Buffalo Bobby in '07. What a great guy.

His friend gave me my trail name on my thru hike.
Just spoke to him a few weeks ago and he was feeling good and was looking forward to finishing. My condolence to his family, he will be missed

According to the AP story, he had a stroke. They evacuated him and he died in the hospital. It was his third thruhike. I think, for me, the worst thing would be a stroke that incapacitated me but didn't kill me. Dieing on the trail, doing what you love, that's not so bad. But it is hard on his family.

What a great pleasure it was to meet Buffalo Bobby. Such a man with a great demeanor and a wit about him that made me laugh. You'll be missed. Thank you for the laughs.

I had the pleasure to meet Buffalo Bobby while hiking this year. He was a great hiker who always had a big smile on his face. He was always one of the first out in the morning and really did the miles. There are few hikers on the AT that seemed to enjoy hiking as much as Buffalo Bobby did. We all are better of for meeting and hiking with him. swamp dawg
