Bus stops along the AT

Is there a site that has all the stops to where public transportation will take you to the trail (well within 5 miles of it). I want to do some section hiking and figure this is probably the best way to do it, take a bus, hit the trail, then hit the bus again to go home. I know there is a train from Washington direct to Harpers Ferry for example and Greyhound services Carlise, PA which is only a few miles away.

Thanks for any help, I haven’t been able to find a good website for this.

Thanks in advance!

The only place I can think of is the on-line version of ALDHA’s companion.

If a trail town has public transportation: AMTRAK, Buses even local shuttlers, it will show up in the entry for that town. It won’t include a schedule, you’ll have to get that info from the transportation company’s website.

Metro North Railroad runs service from Manhattan to a spot on the AT in New York. The stop is appropriately called “Appalachian Trail” (i’m blanking on what town it’s near.) And i’m pretty sure you can get a bus also from the Port Authority in NYC to the Delaware Water Gap, just on the Jersey side of Delaware Water Gap, Penn. - DWG to the Appalachian Trail stop might be a fun section hike for public transit-minded hiker.

I also know there is bus service in Hanover, NH, as well as in Millinocket, maine (making for a much longer section hike). I believe buses also run from Boston to Lee, Mass. (which is where the AT crosses the Mass Turnpike

I am planning to do section hikes, starting this coming June. I went on to the Greyhound Lines web site and compared their list of bus stops in Georgia to a Georgia state map and identified two towns where Greyhound stops within 30 miles of Springer Mtn. I did the same for my projected finish point in N.C. to find a bus stop for going home. I intend to call one of the A.T. shuttle services to get me to and from the bus stops.
