Can anyone give me advise on how to schedule the return shuttle/ bus/ Train from northern terminus back south to Va. Close to the Roanoke area…sometime in August?

Bus/Train from Maine
You could set it up through “The Appalachian Trail Lodge”, located in Millinocket, to get you down to Medway. From there you can Greyhound to points South. I don’t know about trains. The nearest airport is in Bangor, however Portland has more competitive rates, being a larger airport.
BTW, The Appalachian Trail Lodge is a neat place to stay, and the folks there will help you get to where you need to go. Hope this helps.

You can pick up the Amtrak Noreastern from Portland Maine to South Station in Boston.
