Did anyone try out the Buzz-off line of bug-repellant clothing this year? I am very curious as to the effectiveness of this stuff, and its durability. I hear all kinds of testimonials but havent heard any thru-hikers talk about it yet.

I decided that I wasn’t interested in the expensive Buzz-Off clothing when I learned that I could just buy permethrin from Sawyer. It is a durable treatment that you can put on your favorite clothes.
Here is a link that I hope works…

I tried the long sleeve (buttonless) shirt and the hat with neck/ear flaps this summer. The hat didn’t work very well for me. It covered my neck and head but i still had bugs flying around my eyes which I find to be the worst thing about bugs. The shirt worked fine but I also tended to throw my light rain coat on whenever we were stopped and the bugs were really bad so I’m not sure I tested it in the worst of conditions.

I tried the bandana. I mean how could you miss for $12. I have a reaction to black flies. I tied the bandana around my forehead and was very pleased with the results. Yes the mosquitoes and the flies would come around, but I got no bites around my forehead and ears where they love to get me. In addition, this kept me from having to use DEET around my face. Just my 2 cents…:tongue

Yeah I did the permetrhin thing too but the deal with that is you have to treat the clothing every 2 weeks as it wears off. The attraction for me with the buzz-off is that it supposedly permanent as long as you dont overwash the clothing. I was a hassle for me to make sure I had permethrin available
