Is it $55 set in stone or it is based on mileage, times etc???

I think I paid about $55 for a cab ride from Gainesville to the Falls back in '01, and that also included a pitstop at the outfitters in Dahlonega. Happy Trails!

I paid $65 back in 2001 with Vets Taxi’s. That also included a pitstop for groceries. Our cab was a late one though, we didn’t make Amicalola until 10.30 p.m, could explain the extra $10.
Good luck!

You could try the folks at the hiker hostel, they offer a pretty good pick up fee which includes a night at the hostel pretty close to Springer. I think i paid $70 for the pick up, a nights stay and drop off at the Springer parking lot the next morning. That was from a train station just north of Atlanta.

If none of those options work out for you, its really easy to hitch from Gainsville to Dahlonega.
I got off the Bus and looked at a map, found two easy roads that arent major and hithced, I walked maybe a mile before I was picked up.
Got to Dalonega and ate, walked around the circle in the center of that small town and BAM, got a ride all the way to the approach trail.
You might as well get used to hitching into town and back to the trail anyway.
Good luck whichever you do.
