Camp Shoes - Appalachian Trail

Do I need these? It seems like extra weight but most thru hikers seem to carry a camp shoe. Is there really that many streams to ford that I need to carry a set of camp shoes for fording streams? Mine are only 6 oz a shoe, so light weight.

The young kids love the croc's but there just added weight. In 2009 I just had my light weight hiking shoes. Just ford streams using them and they dry out quickly. I usually took my socks off and pulled out the Superfeet insole out and walked across the stream. Did not miss having any camp shoes at the end of the day. I would just loosen the laces while cooking dinner and then you are in your tent with your wet shoes just outside. There was one week in 2009 that it rain hard every day for a week. Nothing was dry during that week. You just live with it and gut it out knowing the weather will get better. So, my opinion take no camp shoes and go light as you possibly can. Ounces add up!
