Camp 'towels' - Appalachian Trail

FWIW, i have always been disappointed with the hi-tech camp towels that are made of something like felt. they always just move the water around and don’t absorb much, if anything. recently, i was in an auto parts store and came across two things i thought i’d try. one was a chamois. the other was a drying cloth by a company called Viking. the chamois was bad. it was hard to dry and was very heavy. the Drying Cloth works. it is like synthetic vinyl (i know that’s the same thing. it’s a joke.) and it is really absorbant. the weight doesn’t seem to be much different from one of those felt things and it functions a lot better.

Thanks for the tip. I have had the same feeling about those so called “camp towels”, that felt like felt! I stopped carring them and switched to a small cotton towel, but if the “Viking” works as you say, and it is lighter than my towel, then it’s worth a try. Thanks, again!

Ha! I came onto Trailjournals with the purpose of finding some info on non felt-like towels-and here you are. Thanks for the info.

Cosco slds packs of micro fiber towels> Pack of ten was $8. They are coated to pick-up dust and felt funny. I washed then four times and they felt like cotton and picked up an amazing amount of water. They dry fairly fast. They seem slightly better than cotton to me.
