Leaving SB 08/15 - 09/01. From what i have read it looks like campfires are a no no the whole way. Looking to just cook some trout. Does anyone have definite information or resource for fire restrictions specifically for the JMT?

Not sure about official restrictions, but with the high altitude and large number of folks doing the JMT, nearby natural fuel sources would soon be depleted. Use a stove.

I hiked the JMT in a high snowpack year so the fire risk was much lower then now. We had a small fire most nights and always camped well off the trail in spots with very little camper activity. We would build a small fire ring and burn wood no thicker then your thumb for a couple of hours each night. In the morning we poured water on the ashes then spread them out and disassembled the fire ring. This year it is so dry out there I do not think I would dare have a fire.
